Cookie Policy

This policy explains how ElliottOS uses cookies and similar technologies, such as browser local storage. It is provided by Jonathan Elliott, trading as Jonny Elliott Consulting and ElliottOS. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small text files that a website can store on your device. "Local storage" is a similar technology built into your browser that lets a web app save small pieces of information on your device, for example to keep you signed in or remember a setting. Both let a site remember things between pages and visits. Throughout this policy we use "storage" to cover cookies and local storage together.
Storage can be "strictly necessary" (needed for the service to work), used for "preferences" (to remember your choices), or used for "analytics" and "advertising" (to measure use or target ads). ElliottOS only uses the first two.
2. Our approach
ElliottOS does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking, and the marketing website currently uses no advertising or analytics tracking. The app itself sits behind a login and uses browser local storage only for the essential and preference items listed below.
3. What ElliottOS stores
The ElliottOS app uses your browser's local storage for the following, all of which are either strictly necessary or preference items.

Strictly necessary storage does not require your consent, because the service cannot work without it. Preference storage is used to improve your experience and is limited to the items above.
4. Third-party storage
We do not use third-party advertising or tracking storage. Where you connect an external service to ElliottOS (for example your bank or calendar), or where a provider we use handles a secure step such as sign-in or payment, that provider may set its own storage on your device as part of delivering that specific function. This is limited to making the connection or transaction work and is governed by that provider's own cookie and privacy policies. Our providers are listed in our Privacy Policy.
5. If we add analytics later
We do not currently use analytics. If we introduce analytics in the future, we will show a consent banner and ask for your agreement before any non-essential analytics storage is set, and you will be able to accept or reject it. We will update this policy at the same time.
6. How to control or clear storage
You can control and delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Because our essential item keeps you signed in, clearing storage will sign you out of ElliottOS, and clearing preference items will reset those choices to their defaults.
- Most browsers let you clear stored site data from their Settings, under Privacy or Site settings, often labelled "Clear browsing data" or "Cookies and site data".
- You can usually clear data for a single site by opening the site information menu next to the address bar and choosing to clear its cookies and storage.
- You can also block or limit cookies in your browser settings, though some features of ElliottOS may not work if you block strictly necessary storage.
Guidance for the most common browsers is available in their own help pages, and general information about cookies is available from the ICO at ico.org.uk.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we change the storage we use or add analytics. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it was last changed.
